About The Work:

Kindness Makes Peace is a Tibetan saying that really resonates with me. I first heard about this saying when I was in China and asked our guide what the Asian lettering carved into a stone tablet meant when we encountered it. The Hamsa hand depicted here is an ancient symbol, a universal protective sign encountered in many faiths. It is believed this symbol brings its owner happiness, luck, health, and good fortune. Hamsa also offers protection from harm caused by evil intent. In our modern world, the Hamsa has become a symbol of hope and peace.

This design was created by collaging shapes I cut from paper that I had hand-printed with acrylic paints on a gelli-plate. I used stencils and other tools to create patterns and textures in the paint before transferring it from the gelli-plate onto the paper.
