Embracing Exploration

Join me on Friday May 3rd from 6-9pm at Manitoba Arts Network in Winnipeg for the opening reception of my show Embracing Exploration, on exhibit in their gallery space for the month of May.

This body of work reflects on my creative journey since moving to Manitoba, exploring different ways of creating with pen and ink, printmaking, oil pastels and more. The satisfaction and joy I get in creating visual art is from the process of starting with an idea and a blank piece of paper, pushing through the initial stages of mark making, then letting the work take on a life of its own, resulting in something unique and unexpected. I like a very meditative approach to working on my art and applying “what if?” along the way. Following my curiosity…

Dreamtime - 8x10" collage

Above is a sneak peak at one of the artworks that is part of this exhibition - Dreamtime. Dreamtime is an 8x10 collage that captures the vivid swirling streams of energy I often encounter when entering into dream state and the mysterious realm of sleep. This collage was created using my own mono-printed papers made by layering acrylic paints on a gelliplate.

I hope you get a chance to stop by and enjoy viewing these artworks as much as I enjoyed creating them.

As author Elizabeth Gilbert so aptly states: “Without curiosity, there is no journey.”

Jan Jenkins

My joy is creating art from the patterns around me and the visual rhythms of line, shape, colour, contrast. I focus on artwork for smaller living spaces and wearable art for that unique look.
